AI & Disclosure
Some of what you read here is written with AI. Here is exactly how, and who is responsible.
What AI does here
Lefty's Lounge uses AI to help cover fast-moving news, starting with politics. A set of AI assistants each has one job: one finds sources, one drafts a short briefing from those sources, one checks every claim against the sources, and one edits for fairness and clarity.
These pieces are labeled The Lounge Desk (AI) and carry a note at the top saying how they were made. They list their sources, like every reported piece here.
What AI does not do
AI does not write opinion, essays, columns, or reviews. Anything marked Opinion, and everything in Cigars, Whiskey & Bourbon, Culture and Personal Essays, is written by people and signed by them.
AI is not allowed to invent quotes, to state an allegation as fact, to write about private individuals, to predict or "call" election results, or to state voting dates and rules from memory. Election logistics link to official election offices.
Who is responsible
A human editor is responsible for everything published on this site. At this stage, a person reads and approves every AI-assisted piece before it goes live. If we later publish some AI-assisted briefings without a person reading each one first, we will say so here and on the pieces themselves.
If we get it wrong
AI can make mistakes, and so can people. If you see an error, tell us at report@leftyslounge.com. Our corrections policy explains what happens next.
How we use your comments
Comments are moderated with the help of an AI tool that flags rule-breaking comments for review. It can hide a comment while a person looks at it. Account bans and permanent removals are decided by a person.
