A lounge for people who like to argue well.

Lefty's Lounge is a Black-centered, cosmopolitan publication. It started with a simple idea: the best conversations happen when people who know their subject sit down together, with something good in the glass and nothing to prove except their point.

We write about politics, Black American history, boxing, technology and artificial intelligence, whiskey and bourbon, cigars, culture, and the personal essays that do not fit anywhere else. Some of it is reported and sourced. Some of it is one person's opinion. We always tell you which is which.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Nobody is entitled to have their opinion treated as credible without evidence.

What that means in practice

Reported pieces cite their sources. Every article that makes factual claims lists where those claims come from, and the count shows next to the headline.

Opinion is labeled. Essays and columns carry an Opinion label. They are welcome, and they are not passed off as established fact. Opinion is always written by people.

We are open about AI. Some news briefings are drafted with AI help, checked against their sources, and reviewed by an editor. They are labeled. You can read exactly how it works on our AI & Disclosure page.

Readers are held to the same standard. Comments are open to signed-in readers. If you state a fact, link where you found it. Comments that cite a source are marked. Comments that make a claim without one may be flagged until a source is added. The details are in the community guidelines.

Corrections are public. When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. See our corrections policy.

Who writes here

Articles are written by the editor, who writes as Lefty, and by invited contributors. Contributors send their pieces for review, and nothing is published until the editor approves it.
